The winners of the debate tournament are going to China

In April 2007 the Legal Education Assistance Foundation founded by the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association organized the debate internal tournament. Debate course has been conducted in the Foundation for already six months together with other law courses. Initially it was taught in 2005-2006 and proved the need of the debate course for law students in the future. Students gain the skills of constructive debate and, therefore, raise the knowledge in different legal issues, organize the public discussions on the state problematic issues. In 2006-2007 teaching of the debate course also initiated in GYLA regional branches – Rustavi, Kutaisi, Gori, Telavi and Batumi.

 

The qualified trainers did their best to contribute to the debate course ( Tbilisi – Otar Kakhidze, Tamar Gurchiani, Tinatin Shelia; Batumi – Irakli Ananidze, Kutaisi- Nikoloz Gegeshidze, Gori-Kakhaber Gordadze, Telavi – Taliuri, Rustavi – Lela Bekauri.). Together with the best speaker students of the last tournament they  judged on the debate tournament.

 

Human Rights’ Protection was the topic for the debate tournament and 35 resolutions were prepared for it. Students were working on them for a month and this assisted not only to preparation for the tournament; but also to acquiring of great information on different Human Rights’ problematic issues.

The Internal Debate Tournament was held in Tbilisi on April 13-15 and on April 18-22 in regions. 8 best teams and 30 best speakers were announced. They were given presents and certificates. On April 28 at the national debate tournament 8 best teams participated and two best English- speaker candidates were selected for participation in China International Debate tournament which will be held in May 23-27. Legal Education Assistance Foundation will cover all expenses.
