The Plenum of the Supreme Court has appointed Khvicha Kikilashvili, a member of the Court of Appeals at the Constitutional Court. This was preceded by appeals to the Plenum to suspend this process temporarily, until the cancellation of the state of emergency and to provide the public with information about the candidate. The sitting was postponed for the first time, however, it was held today, at 15:00, where the judges upheld the above-mentioned decision.

In the state of emergency, decision making by an accelerated and opaque process eliminated both, the public discussion on the candidate (his/her identity was disclosed only at the voting) and civil control on the appointment process. This will negatively reflect on the trust towards the two most important institutions of judicial power, the Supreme and Constitutional Courts.

It should be noted, that a few members of the Supreme Court did not attend the sitting-We emphasize the importance of this act and assess it.
